everything happens for a reason: Tori Kaminski

First off, I’d like to introduce myself! My name is Tori Kaminski. I am a Junior majoring in psychology and minoring in general business and art therapy. I am Alpha Xi Delta’s mental health director! I am so incredibly lucky to belong to the kindest, funniest, and most supportive group of girls. I can’t wait for Ximentality to grow throughout the next couple years and I’m so blessed to be able to implement the important aspect of mental health awareness throughout our sorority. Now onto an important message that I think about every day: everything happens for a reason.

Such a small phrase with such a big meaning. Everything happens for a reason. Some people may not believe in this phrase, but I live by it. I believe that thinking of this phrase can lead you to become an optimistic person. When you look at a negative situation and think that there is a reason behind it, the negative situation will hold less space.

Every event, whether it is significant or not, has led you to where you are today. If one event were changed in your life, you would be a completely different person. Everything that you have been through has led you to who you are today and will continue to for the rest of your life.

Everything you experience has a lesson behind it. You may not be aware of that lesson until later in your life but nothing happens just because. Everything you go through shapes you. You learn, you love, you lose, you win, you grieve, you laugh, you cry. None of that happens without a meaning. All of the knowledge you have gained from living has a purpose. You will continue to grow as a person because of everything you have experienced and will experience.

Everyone goes through lows and highs in their lives. Although the lows are inevitable, it is important to remember that without those lows there would never be highs. While in those low times in life, it is important to remember that everything happens for a reason. Sometimes when you are at your lowest, you can appreciate the times when life is fruitful and truly radiant. Lows happen so that we can be grateful and appreciative of the lives we have.

Everything happens for a reason because we all have a purpose in life. Often many. Have you found your purpose in life? I believe that I have found one of mine. To love. Simple as that. I heard this quote before and love it - “I know love is real because I exist and I am full of it.” Although many of us have been through difficult and challenging situations, it is important to remember the love within yourself.

Life throws us many challenges and how we handle them determines how much these challenges affect us. Many of these challenges include other people. I know that everyone has, including myself, experienced betrayal or pain caused by a person that we love. Often in these times we may question our worth, if love is real, why someone that means so much to you would do that, etc. In these times of doubt it is important to focus on yourself and to know that you are worthy. What other people do is a reflection of themselves. And we need to take what others do with a grain of salt. But this being said, there is always a lesson to be learned from these situations. Because everything happens for a reason.
